The successful candidate will report to the Superintendent of Schools and be responsible for:

Freeport High School

Anticipated Guidance Counselor - Freeport High School seeks a dynamic, collaborative school counseling professional to join the Guidance Department team in supporting the academic, social and emotional, and career and college planning needs of students in grades 9-12. This position is engaged in all aspects of the high school counseling program including individual counseling, advisory support, large group presentations, post-secondary planning, 504 facilitation, consultation with parents and staff, and crisis intervention and referrals.  Individual must possess a valid 075 - Guidance Counselor endorsement from the State of Maine.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of 504 and IEP process
  • Strong organizational and computer skills (experience with PowerSchool and Naviance)

Fill in on various bus routes as needed including daily routes, sports and field trips. Individual will perform custodial work when not driving bus to complete a 40-hour workweek.

Freeport High School

Principal - RSU5 is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic educational leader to become the next Principal of Freeport High School, a 9-12 public high school of approximately 500 pupils.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of seven years experience in education with a solid understanding of successful principles and practices at the secondary level.  Administrative experience is preferred.  The candidate will be an effective communicator, possess strong interpersonal skills, have a clear commitment to meeting the needs of all students, and a willingness to collaborate with all stakeholders. The candidate will oversee scheduling, curriculum, personnel management, co and extra-curricular activities and facility management.

Educational Technician III (32.5 hours per week) - will support and provide small group instruction to students with behavioral challenges.  Preference will be given to the candidate with training and background in behavior management and Safety Care.   Individual must hold a current State of Maine 023 - Educational Technician III authorization.  Position open until suitable candidate is found.

Durham Community School

Educational Technician II (30 hours per week) - will work as part of an RTI team to support students with literacy and math interventions.   Individual must hold a current State of Maine 022 - Educational Technician II authorization.  Position open until suitable candidate is found.

Pownal Elementary School

Administrative Secretary - will serve as the front line ambassador to the school.  First and foremost, the successful candidate must like children and helping the families and staff members who support their education development.  The ability to communicate effectively, maintain confidentiality, use technology, multi-task, and handle emergencies with grace, are all daily expectations of this position.  Candidate should have at least five (5) years experience in a similar setting.   This individual will work a total of 220 days per year (175 student days, 12 paid holidays, 5 PLD days, plus 28 days during the summer).  Working hours are 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.  Individual must obtain a Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) from the Maine Department of Education.  Position open until suitable candidate is found.

Durham Community School/Freeport Middle School

.5 Math Strategist - to assist the math teachers in grades 6-8 at both Durham Community School and Freeport Middle School to help them improve student learning.  Successful middle school level teaching experience is required.  Experience with curriculum design, CCSS and Proficiency Based Education is preferred. Must hold a current State of Maine 300 -Mathematics certificate.

Mast Landing School

.6 Technology Teacher (1 year only) - this one year only position will plan and teach weekly, digital literacy classes for students in grade 3-5.  Successful candidate should have familiarity with Mac OS and applications and the ability to collaborate with teachers across the content areas to support their use of technology to facilitate teaching and student learning.  Must hold a current State of Maine 680 - Computer Technology certificate.


Gifted & Talented Teacher - through a combination of direct instruction, coaching, and consultation, the effective GT teacher will support the needs of identified students in grades K-5 across the district.  In addition to supporting students in literacy and math, this teacher will collaborate to provide enrichment in visual and performing arts.  Coordinating the identification process and analyzing data are expected.  Strong communication and initiation skills are critical for success.  Must hold a current State of Maine 690 - Gifted & Talented certificate.

Instructional Strategist - will provide coaching/mentoring to special education and regular education staff to improve delivery of services to students with disabilities.  Must a hold a current State of Maine 079 - Special Education Consultant certificate OR 035 - Assistant Administrator of Special Education certificate OR 030 - Administrator of Special Education certificate.

Anticipated Board Certified Behavior Analyst - to provide consultations to staff to improve programming for students with behavioral challenges.  Must be licensed as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and hold a current State of Maine Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).

Part-Time Van Driver (20 hrs per week) - the part-time van driver will drive van Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM and 1:45 PM - 3:15 PM (earlier run on Fridays).  Successful candidate will have a clean driving record, with at least 5 years driving experience. Individual must obtain a Criminal History Background Certificate (CHRC) from the Maine Department of Education.

Substitute Custodians

We are currently looking for full and part-time substitutes to work nights on an as needed basis.  Successful candidates should have at least one year of previous cleaning experience.  Experience working in a school setting is a plus.  Individuals must obtain a Criminal History Background Certificate (CHRC) from the Maine Department of Education.
