March 28, 2012 FY13 Budget

The end of March finds us beginning the 2013 budget process, focused on the best allocation of teacher and student time next year and working to ensure the continued strength of our educational programs. While this year continues to be a difficult one economically for schools across the state and the nation, RSU5 is in a better position than most.

Education Forum - April 2, 2012

The district will host our annual RSU5 Education Forum on April 2, 2012 at 6:30 pm in the FPAC. Commissioner Stephen Bowen will kick-off our community discussion with a keynote address.

Budget Process FY13

The Board will begin the budget development process on Tuesday, March 27th and Wednesday, March 28th with a detailed presentation of the proposed 2012-2013 budget. The following dates are also scheduled as part of this process:

April 11, 2012 Budget Review with community input, 6:30 p.m. – Pownal Elementary School

April 25, 2012 Budget Review with community input, 6:30 p.m. – Durham Community School

May 9, 2012 Final Budget Adoption, Regular Meeting, 6:30 p.m. – FHS Cafeteria

May 23, 2012 Annual Budget Meeting for public budget approval, 6:30 p.m. – FHS Gym

June 12, 2012 Budget Validation Referendum in each town

June 13, 2012 Board Meeting, 6:30 p.m. – FHS Cafeteria

Budget Meetings

It may be hard to believe but we are in the process of developing our budget for the 2012-2013 school year. The RSU5 Board of Directors established a goal to provide leadership for securing support for the district budget with a specific plan for explaining and defending the budget to the public. The Board held a series of public workshops over the past few months on topics with the potential for increased funding in next year’s budget. Topics have included technology, capital improvements, enrollments, use of time, and the Freeport High School Master Plan including fields and grounds.

Use of Time - Survey on the Draft 2012-2013 School Calendar

Dear Parents, Students, Community Members and Staff,

The RSU5 Use of Time Advisory Committee has released two proposed calendar options for school year 2012-2013. An electronic survey has been set up to invite your feedback on the proposed calendar. This survey will remain active until March 5. The Use of Time Advisory Committee will reconvene on March 7th to review your responses and comments, and make final recommendations to the RSU5 Board of Directors for next year’s calendar.
